The Govt. of India as well as Odisha are taking utmost steps to change the
living
standards of women and making them self-sustained. To achieve this goal,
SSOE has
formed & strengthened 17 nos. of village level women Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
in
Binjharpur & Dasarathpur blocks of Jajpur district for promoting saving &
credit
activity among women to make them self-sustained. A SHG is an informal
association
to enhance the member's financial security as primary focus and other common
interest of members such as area development, awareness, motivation,
leadership,
training and associating in other social inter-mediation programmes for the
benefit
of the entire community. Apart from that, the SHGs are organizing themselves
to
create massive awareness
about various social
issues like gender inequality, casteism, dowry, anti-liquor
movement, violence against women, girl child education, child labour, illiteracy,
women & child trafficking, protection of sound environment etc. Some of the SHGs
have received loan from local Banks and are running Income Generating Activities
like Rice processing, Dairy farm, Goatry farm, Dry fish business. The Field
Coordinators & Volunteers of the organization arrange regular meetings of women
members and discuss about their performance through maintaining of SHG records & its
management.
